Shree Cement’s Roorkee Unit Commissions a 6.0 MWp Solar Plant

At its Roorkee facility in Uttarakhand, Shree Cement Ltd, one of India’s leading cement producers, has commissioned a 6.0 MWp solar power plant. This installation is a step toward the company achieving its RE100 targets—a global corporate renewable energy initiative focusing on 100 percent renewable electricity—and decarbonization goals.

With the new installation, which has now grown from 1.0 MWp to 7.0 MWp—an increase of seven times—the Roorkee unit’s solar capacity has undergone a major expansion. With this development, the company’s total solar footprint has reached 293.5 MWp.

Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, Shree Cement Ltd, shared, “The commissioning of the Roorkee solar plant is a testament to our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and building long-term energy resilience.” Adding to that, he stated, “Projects like this not only benefit the environment but also create local jobs and contribute to inclusive economic growth.”

Established on a capital investment of around INR 16 crore, the plant will support the unit in reducing its reliance on grid electricity. It is also expected to significantly reduce approximately 6,500 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, thus contributing to the long-term goals of achieving a sustainable and greener future for the nation.
