IGBC Green Andhra Summit 2025 Highlights Andhra Pradesh’s Efforts Toward Sustainable Growth

Convened by CII Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), the IGBC Green Andhra Summit 2025, held in Novotel, Vijayawada, served as a platform for Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious push toward a net-zero future. The event brought Andhra Pradesh’s IGBC-registered projects to over 500, covering 612 million sq ft.
Gathering public officials, industry leaders, technical experts, and sustainability champions, the event facilitated knowledge sharing, mutual learning, and the advancement of practical strategies for sustainable building and urban development across Andhra Pradesh.
Ponguru Narayana, Minister, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD), Government of Andhra Pradesh, said the state aims to become “a global symbol of sustainability” with Amaravati as a model green capital showcasing climate resilience, smart infrastructure, and clean energy.
Narayana encouraged stakeholders from industry, academia, and citizens to adopt Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Green Building Ratings, pointing out that over 550 green-certified projects and bold initiatives such as the Green Hydrogen Valley are leading the movement for a Net Zero state by 2040.
Suresh Kumar S, IAS, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD), Government of Andhra Pradesh, referred to the act of greening the construction sector “an environmental imperative,” stressing that “achieving Net Zero is the responsibility of all.” He outlined new incentives—impact fee discounts and Andhra Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (AP RERA) registration fee refunds of up to 20 percent for IGBC-certified multi-storied buildings—to make green buildings the norm across the state.
C Shekar Reddy, National Vice Chairman, CII Indian Green Building Council, explained that Amaravati can be “a global model for sustainable urban development,” with IGBC offering technical expertise, training, and 32 rating systems to guide responsible construction.
Kanna Babu, IAS, Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA), Government of Andhra Pradesh, hailed the certification of 116 new projects, including the Net Zero Energy-certified APCRDA Head Office, envisioning “every project—homes, schools, offices, factories—achieving Net Zero status.”
